Spring has arrived, and even if it is a little early I doubt anyone will be complaining! Now is a good time to do some routine maintenance on your house:
- Check your roofing and shingles for any damage from ice or snow
- Replace the batteries in your smoke detector
- Clean your gutters
- Replace the filters around your house
- Make sure there has been no water damage in the basement or around the foundation from melting snow or heavy rain
These are just a few things to look into so you can be sure your home is safe. But did you know there are things you may not be able to see that could be making your home unsafe? Things like lead, mold, carbon monoxide and radon may not be seen but can be dangerous or even fatal. HUD’s Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control has information on all of these and more, as well as steps you can take to keep you and your family safe.
