Americans want more sustainable communities. That’s obvious when you look at the communities that have retained their value during the recent downturn in the housing market. here at HUD we are responding to this realignment with an increased focus on developing thriving neighborhoods that combine access to transit, jobs and cultural opportunities with our affordable housing.
Today in Santa Monica, Secretary Donovan visited one such community at Bergamont station. HUD was happy to award a $650,000 dollar grant to this neighborhood which is going to help them develop a concrete plan to put the neighborhood on track for growth. When complete, this neighborhood will couple the new transit line being installed with a new mixed income housing development and a new biotech center. This is exactly the kind of place-based development that HUD is committed to delivering for American families.
