Huffington Post: Media Hit on Housing Programs Is Off Target

Unless you work at HUD or one of its public or private partners – or consider yourself a housing wonk – you might not realize that HUD’s HOME program is completely separate from public housing. It’s easy to get confused! After all, HOME plays a huge role in keeping housing affordable for all Americans. However, HOME is independent of programs like Housing Choice Vouchers and Project-Based Rental Assistance, which together afford 2.2 million of America’s most vulnerable families with the safe and decent housing they deserve.

Over at the Huffington Post, CLPHA’s Sunia Zaterman helps explain how HOME works and why it’s so important for the press to capture the bigger picture when they report on housing. Zaterman knows “how easy it is to taint an entire portfolio of federal programs by highlighting problems at one.”
